On Noticing

Every film I love feels like someone noticed something and refused to let it go. A gesture, a light, the way a room sounds when it empties.

I do not think the rare skill is equipment or software. It is being genuinely interested in things that are not about you. Interest is what makes an audience lean forward, and you cannot fake it in an edit.

You cannot shoot what you never saw.

So the practice is unglamorous. Walk somewhere without headphones. Sit in the same place twice. Ask a second question. Write down the thing you noticed before you decide whether it is useful.

The work comes out of that, eventually. It always has for me.
